Ciudad Juárez, está localizado na forntera de USA-Mexico, é considerada uma das mais perigosas cidades da terra. Desde 1993, mais de 400 mulheres tinham sido assassinadas e a maioria dos crimes ainda permanecem sem resolver, inclusive sem investigar, como a corrupção e sua relação com a violencia das drogas que dizimam as instituições civis.
Esta obra é a companheiao on-line para o livro O tue de qui de ville eles femmes, enquête à Ciudad Juárez (A Cidade que Mata as Mulheres: Inspecionar de Ciudad Juárez) assim como para o documentário de Canal+ do mesmo nome, o documentário interativo produzido pela Upian La Cité des Mortes (A Cidade do Morto) rememora as vítimas de Ciudad Juárez e conta as histórias de ativistas e investigadores que lutam por justiça. Fotografias e vídeo documentário incorporando com imagens do Google Earth, o site também explora a narração de historias digitalmente-habilitada por um dispositivo locativo.
La Cité des Mortes foi um dos primeiros web documentarios, estreiado em 2005 deois de varios anos de desenvolvimento. Montado em Flash, o projeto ganhou em 2006 o premio Click d’Or.

Os aranha-céu residenciais são as unidades residenciais mais comuns construidas nos últimos 50 anos. Highrise e uma iniciativa do “National Film Board of Canada” que ao longo de um quinquênio veio explorar o impacto na vida de quem mora num aranha-céu atendendo dimensões sociais, culturais e ambiental.
Out My Window e o projeto inaugural deste projeto, nele a diretora Katerina Cizek documenta as vidas de moradores de apartamentos em cidades tão diverso quanto Toronto, Havana, Istambul e Phnom Penh. Para sua produção Cizek e seu equipe têm a colaboração dos residentes desses edifícios como de cineastas ou videomakers profissionais e fotojornalistas das cidades escolhidas no recorte (umas 100 pessoas no total). Cizek ocasionalmente filmou no local, ela geralmente dirigiu remotamente o projeto desde sua base de Toronto usando o telefone, Skype, e-mail e mídia sociais para comunicar com colaboradores locais.

Refugee Republic is an interactive documentary that allows you to explore everyday life in Camp Domiz. Scroll through hand-drawn maps, drawings, photographs, and short video impressions. You will discover that there is another world behind the images you see in the media. A world that is not all that much different from yours and mine.
We’ve all seen the images. People desperately waiting for help outside in the blazing sun in front of rows of white tents. A child behind barbed wire, covered in dust, gazes into the lens of a news camera. But that’s just part of the story.
Camp Domiz is a Syrian refugee camp in northern Iraq. Around 64 thousand predominantly Kurdish-Syrian refugees have sought shelter here. As the number of refugees grew, the camp gradually transformed from a temporary refuge to a makeshift town, where people live and work, go to school, start a business, get married, argue and have fun.
Visual artist Jan Rothuizen, journalist Martijn van Tol, and photographer Dirk Jan Visser explored Camp Domiz from A to Z (see also our video profile). They bring to life its inhabitants and places in a multidimensional mix of sound, drawings, photo and film.
Some of the people you’ll meet in the documentary are Ahmed, who skips school to look after his bird stall. The busy circumcision doctor Shixmous. The mechanic Ahmad, who set up a tuk-tuk garage in front of his tent. And Fatma, a teenager who dreams of finding her big break as a singer on Youtube.

Do Not Track is a personalized web documentary series about internet privacy directed by Brett Gaylor and co-produced by NFB, Arte, BR, and Upian. Every two weeks, a new personalized episode is released, looking at a different aspect of how the web is increasingly becoming a space where the users’ movements, speech and identities are recorded and tracked.
Exploring the implications of online tracking from mobile phones to social networks, personalized advertising to big data, Do Not Track seeks to inform audiences about the methods and tools trackers use while helping them taking steps in order to ensure their privacy online.

As Lev Manovich has argued, Vertov’s film is itself a database of loosely connected shots that synthesize a depiction of the working day in the early Soviet Union. Building on this database structure, Bard has created a platform where users may submit their own visual interpretations of any of the 1,276 shots in Vertov’s classic. Once uploaded, software developed specifically for this project selects from the submissions to collate a new version of the film, which is streamed on the site alongside the original with a soundtrack composed for the project by Steve Baun.
The images and videos in Bard’s archive are often made on mobile phones; they may be either original submissions or lifted by users from the web. “One of my persistent concerns,” Bard writes, “is the question of access, the digital divide, who is included, who is left out.” In order to ensure that her submissions database includes images from a diverse pool of contributors in cultural, linguistic, and geographic terms, Bard commissioned twelve foreign correspondents based in Brazil, Lebanon, Israel, Columbia, Pakistan, Russia, Serbia, Japan, China, Korea, Mexico, and Thailand.
